Cade brought up the idea of possibly doing a barbecue. Another option is that I have lots of Chinese New Year food from my mother sitting in the freezer waiting to be eaten by ravenous ravers. It's basically sticky rice, bean paste, and some meat and nuts and stuff that get wrapped in banana leaves. Unwrapping and frying them up with a little bit of sugar makes for good times! We're crazy excited about this event as we've managed to get our paws on a beautiful strip of beach near Rosarito and Ensanada for all of our butt-moving, hand-drumming, fire-dancing, sandcastle-making, volleyball-playing, and sweet love making ( fingers crossed! ) delight! It's double cool for me cuz it's sort of an unofficial " coming home " party... ask me over a Corona, and I'll fill you in... Just wanted you to have the lowdown on Alma Paradiso according to me. <br/> <br/> Since I was a wee little Saynt, dreaming the good dream about being able to share the music that moved me with with everyone in an effort to move them, one of my favorite daydreams was to be able to play music on some picturesque exotic beach somewhere. Right at Sunset. You know... the kind of sunset where the powers that be take thick and vibrant orange, purple, and blue brushes and color the sky... I'd always picture myself rocking out with this crazy tribal-style music. Something almost primal. Then, I'd imagine that there was a huge a crowd of folks there, some were dancing, but alot of them had drums. Big ones, little ones, empty paint jugs, empty water bottles... anything that made for a decent percussion instrument. We'd all be playing together. The same beat... all in sync. Conduits ALL for the divine pulse. <br/> Funny thing about being a part of such a dynamic and encouraging community... you get to do shit like that. SO... On Saturday at Alma Paradiso, I will be laying down a tribal set from 7pm - 830pm. RIGHT through the sunset and RIGHT on the beach. <br/> The only thing missing is YOU. So I'm putting the call out to anyone and everyone who wants to partake. Bring a drum. Big ones, little ones, empty paint jugs, empty water bottles... anything that makes for a decent percussion instrument and help me transition from day to night right there on the sand. Lets see just how huge we can make this drum circle. Our sacred space. Then lets see how many dancers we can bring into it. This is an endeavor for us all. We all take part. Beyond DJ or Drummer, we'll wake the gods, channel the divine pulse, and become participants in a very new spin on a very old style ritual. <div>Thinking about travelling to Jamaica and Cuba in April. Had a dinner with a friend tonight and already have one person on board. Just wanted to throw it out there and see if anyone else wants to come for about 8 or 9 days. I've been wanting to stay at this place in Negril which is a bit outside of Montego Bay (www.rockhousehotel.com). But can always go for a cheaper route if anyone else wants to go. <br/>After that we plan to jump a flight to Havana. Given the time restraint, We'll probably only go to Havana and Veradero. <br/> <br/>It will be my fourth trip to Cuba and I'd be really excited to play tour guide and show anyone around some of my favorite places: Bodeguito del Medio has the most awesome mojitos -- one of Hemingway's old hangouts in La Habana Vieja <br/>(the bar opens to the street and you can scrawl on the walls). Casa De La Musica -- simply cannot be missed. The best salsa bands in town begin playing at 1 in the morning with various performance arts groups (dancers, singers from the Tropicana club, etc.) starting around 10. For the history buffs --- Museo De La Revolucion -- which includes artifacts from when the Spaniards overtook the country and enslaved the aboriginies. And for the art freaks -- Museo del belle artistes -- which is right around the corner. Cuban art is like no other. Bright colors. Strange combinations of Spanish and African influences. Very cool. <br/> <br/>Send me a line if you're interested. <div>To all my friends. <br/> <br/>Pai as we now it is gone. <br/>Town is now deserted because of the amount of mud and the sudden lack of guesthouses and bars still standing. <br/>What happened??? <br/>We don't know for sure, but we have had the worst flooding in 30 years... Rumours about broken dams. <br/>Mudslides from the mountain came down by the wednesdaymarket, destroying everything in its way. The house that John and Dan shared with Jae was hit and filled with mud. They are all ok, but has lost everything. <br/>The wednesdaymarket is trashed, houses missing and broken road. <br/>Unfortunatley the mud then swept over Lucky Blaskows. I have lost my bar. <br/>At the same time as this happened, our own river took on desastrous proportions and washed away everything on the other side of the river; Drifters, Goodview, Familyhut and our beloved Riverview, flooding Mellow Yellow, Goodlife and everything on their street. <br/>Ps Bungalows lost 22 out of 30 huts and every record about guests was washed away in the stream. <br/> <br/>My house survived only because of the hill it is built on. Some of my neighbours wewe not as fortunate. <br/>Opened my window saturday morning and saw a river stretching from hill to hill. The ones of you who have been to my house know that that's not right. Where did my beautiful ricepaddys go??? <br/>Started digging out places last sunday. 20 people digging out three feet of mud from Shisha, and we have been at it ever since. <br/>Feel so tired. <br/>Also feel proud though. Have organised a large team that goes from one place to the next. <br/>Yesterday I found a small familyhouse in Nam Ho. The familys in the villages do not get any help from the military, so we started digging. <br/>Managed to go back today with my entire crew, and what would have been an impossible job for them was done in five hours. <br/> <br/>The newspaper only wrights what the goverment allows them to wright. according to them only 13 deaths and a few cases of missing people has been reported in the hole north(Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Soppong, Pai and every village inbetween), but there is no way that that can be true. No way. We are talking hundreds... <br/> <br/>Sorry if this email seems a bit scatty, but I feel so tired. <div>So Alchemy is no more - What to do? <br/> <br/>Well, the First Annual L.A.Downtown Arts Fest (www.laartfest.org) is coming up, and there is going to be a pre-fest BBQ on Monday (Memorial Day) in downtown L.A. In the interest of making something available for lost peeps, we've helped to organize this BBQ on a large parcel of land right in the center of the artist district. Everyone is invited, but please DO NOT promote this on big public lists. The idea is to have a BBQ for maybe 80-100, or 100-150 (as I’m never really sure what constitutes too much or too many) peeps max, from 1pm(ish) to sunset(ish). <br/> <br/>This is a BYOA(nything) Event: <br/>BBQables &amp; BBQ's <br/>Coolerables &amp; Coolers <br/>Shadeables &amp; Shade <br/>Burnables &amp; Burners <br/>Etc. (you get the idea). <br/> <br/>This space is available to us because of the upcoming Art Fest (www.laartfest.org). Many of the artists involved in this event are part of our community, so we don't want to get to big or too unruly and screw things up for the Art Fest. The promoter was kind enough to extend this opportunity to us, so let's have some fun, but not get too crazy. The idea is to go from 1pm to sunset, and then take it to the various after party locations, such as my place (walking distance), Paynie's place (Red Loft), etc. (TDB). <br/> <br/>The space is a large lot (half paved, half weeds) west of SCIARC.
